The Early Mays burst on to the folk music scene in 2014 with a #2 debut on the National Folk-DJ charts and the WYEP Artist of the Year award. Rhythmic, evocative, dark and wistful, their Appalachian-inspired folk songs are built on deep country sensibilities, masterful ballad singing and a sweet old-time sound. Fiddle, banjo, guitar and harmonium are the backdrop for vocal harmonies are “close, perfect, high and sweet–as natural as breathing” (LBSPY, Lewisburg, WV).
In 2016, Emily Pinkerton and Ellen Gozion are beginning an exciting new collaboration with singer and multi-instrumentalist Rachel Eddy. Born and raised in West Virginia, Rachel is a prolific performer who has shared the stage with songwriters and old-time legends including Tim O’Brien, Uncle Earl and Bruce Molsky. She has moved back to West Virginia this year after 6 years of living and touring in Europe.
